Susquehanna Community School District Scholarships

The Community Foundation manages the following scholarship that benefits graduates of Susquehanna Community School District.

Cindi Conaty Memorial Scholarship:

Established by Susquehanna County District Attorney, Jason Legg, in honor of his mother to provide a college or post-secondary degree program scholarship for a student from one of the six Susquehanna County High Schools who writes a winning essay explaining his or her pro-life stance and values and how those values have had an impact upon the student's life.  The scholarship award for 2013 is $500.

Gil Depew Memorial Scholarship:

Established by the family of Mr. Depew to provide a college scholarship for a diabetic student from one of the six Susquehanna County High Schools. The scholarship award for 2013 is $950.

Edwards-Napolitano Memorial Music Scholarship:

Established initially in memory of Johnny Edwards, a talented musician from Susquehanna.  In 2007 the name of the fund changed to also honor Johnny's good friend and band-mate, John Napolitano, who has also passed away.  This fund provides a college scholarship for a Susquehanna Community High School graduate who exhibits exceptional musical talent in vocal or instrumental performance. The scholarship award for 2013 is $650.

Giana Foundation Scholarship Fund for the Visual and Performing Arts:

For a student in good standing who has exhibited a passion for the visual or performing arts and who will attend college or a post-secondary degree program to major in those fields.  Scholarship award for 2013 is $5,000.

Montrose Business and Professional Women's Scholarship:

Provides a college scholarship to a graduate of a Susquehanna County high school who will further his or her education in preparation for entering the business or health care professions, or to an adult seeking further education.  This scholarship will not be awarded in 2012 while the fund matures in value.  Tax-deductible donations to the fund are always welcome.

The Claire Williams O'Neil Foundation Scholarship:

The Claire Williams O'Neil Foundation was established by the family of Mrs. O'Neil who was an admired and inspirational teacher in Susquehanna. The Foundation provides a college scholarship to Susquehanna Community students who exhibit extraordinary goals, but who might otherwise have difficulty attending the highest quality universities to further their education.  Click hereto link to The O'Neil Foundation's web site for more information.

 

Beatrice Reynolds Memorial Scholarship Fund

 

Established by the late Ira T. Reynolds in memory of his late wife to assist a Susquehanna Community School District graduate who will major in education or teacher training.  Scholarship is provided in four equal installments as long as the recipient remains a student in good standing.  Scholarship installment for 2013 is $325.

R.E.S.C.U.E. Benjamin B. Stone Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established by the environmental organization "Return Susquehanna Country Under Ecology" to recognize Benjamin Stone's courageous and life-long efforts that both halted threatening pollution to our region and established the Susquehanna County Recycling Center.  Two college scholarships are awarded each year and are available to Seniors from all of the High Schools in Susquehanna County and from Honesdale, Wallenpaupack Area, and Western Wayne High Schools in Wayne County who write winning essays addressing their past environmental interests and accomplishments and describing their future plans to protect the environment.  Scholarship award for 2013 is $500.

The Margaret Stone Music Scholarship Endowment:

Established by Mrs. Stone, Houghton College class of '45, to assist a music major attending her alma mater. The scholarship award for 2013 is $900.

The Susquehanna County Christmas Basketball Tournament Scholarship:

Established by the school districts in Susquehanna County to provide college scholarships to students from the teams that participate in the Annual Susquehanna County Christmas Basketball Tournament every December.

Susquehanna Fire Department Scholarship Fund:

Established by the Susquehanna Fire Department to assist a Susquehanna Community student who has demonstrated a strong sense of volunteerism and community service. The scholarship award for 2013 is $850.

Matthew Van Fleet Memorial Automotive Scholarship:

Established by Matthew's parents and his sister in memory of Matt who passed away in an automobile accident.  The scholarship provides assistance to a student who will study automotive technology and who writes a winning 200-250 word essay addressing the following topics: why pursue training in the automotive field, describe the ultimate vehicle, envision the future of automotive technology, explain one's favorite recreational activity. The scholarship is available to students from all the school districts in Susquehanna and Wyoming Counties.  The scholarship award for 2013 is $900.
