DGK Donates to EITC Scholarships

November 28, 2009: DGK Insurance & Financial Services recently donated more than $2,000 to the Pre-School Scholarship program, administered by The Community Foundation of Susquehanna & Wyoming Counties. The donation sponsors tuition scholarships for local pre-school students from low and moderate income families in Wyoming and Susquehanna counties who are struggling in today's economy to provide quality education to their young children.

DGK , an employee owned company in Factoryville, participated in this scholarship program for the first time in 2009, at a time when some companies are cutting back on charitable giving. This program allows businesses to pledge donations for scholarships in return for partial or full tax credits applied to their Pennsylvania corporate taxes.

Since 2003, The Community Foundation has provided more than 300 pre-school scholarships for children attending seventeen area pre-schools, granting close to $275,000 in full and partial scholarships.

DGK, which opened in Factoryville in 1917, has been committed to serving the community for more than 85 years. What started out as a small family owned insurance agency has grown to offer financial services and has a professional staff of twenty employee-owners. "It was important to our employee-owners that they give back to the community that has made them successful, and offering children a chance at early childhood education has a lasting effect on the future of our area," said Kathleen Glattly, President of DGK Insurance.

"We thank DGK Insurance very much," said Peter Quigg, President of The Community Foundation. "They were very enthusiastic about the program from the moment they learned of it, knowing the satisfaction they have received from funding these scholarships, and most importantly the assistance this will provide to local families."
