September 23, 2009: Have you or a family member recently enjoyed the benefit from a natural gas lease? Perhaps you now find yourself able to help your favorite charity in ways you've always hoped for. I would just like to mention that The Community Foundation of Susquehanna & Wyoming Counties is in a position to help you achieve your charitable goals. Our purpose is to keep local dollars working for local causes.
The Community Foundation is itself a non-profit organization that has existed for eleven years, and we currently administer more than 100 charitable endowments serving a broad array of causes. The most recent national statistics available show that a year ago we were one of the 100 fastest growing community foundations from among the nearly 800 across the United States. Our Charitable Savings Accounts allow individuals and families the flexibility to fund their favorite charities to any level they choose at anytime.
In the past eleven months individuals, families, and corporations from our two-county service area have contributed over $250,000 in natural gas related proceeds to endowments that support two local churches, a hospital, a library, a college scholarship, our K-12 Scholarship Program for low and moderate income families, and a Donor Advised Fund with which the family will annually select a favorite charity to support. Additional inquiries keep arriving on a regular basis. Furthermore, the current investment return for Community Foundation endowments exceeds 20%, which goes a long way toward enhancing the value of charitable grants.
Perhaps the establishment of a Charitable Savings Account with The Community Foundation may assist with your charitable goals, as well as with any estate and tax plans you need to make due to the sudden change in your circumstances. All contributions to Community Foundation endowments are tax-deductible. Many exciting things are happening both here at The Community Foundation and in our region. Please feel free to contact me to discuss our projects further and how we can help you provide lasting assistance to your favorite charities.
