July 17, 2009: It is with bereavement, yet continuing admiration, that The Community Foundation of Susquehanna & Wyoming Counties shares the sad news of the recent passing of Robert Warriner of Elk Lake, who in 1998 was among a handful of concerned citizens who comprised the founding Board of The Community Foundation. At that time Bobby and his wife Kathy Baker Warriner established an endowment to support local agricultural, heritage, and educational projects. Most recently the Warriner family used their endowment to assist an after-school academic program for elementary school children in Susquehanna County.
Bobby owned and operated Agawam Farm and Agawam Excavating & Trucking in Elk Lake. In addition to his involvement with The Community Foundation, Bobby was also active in the New York State 2 Cylinder Expo Association, The Montrose Country Club, The Susquehanna County Soil Conservation Service, The Susquehanna County Conservation District, The Chesapeake Bay Foundation, The Elk Lake Protective Association, and the Warren Lodge #240 of the Free and Accepted Masons. He also continued a long family tradition of membership in St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Montrose.
In addition to his wife Kathy, Bobby is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Edgar and Sherri Warriner of Elk Lake, Raymond and Jeanine Warriner of Elk Lake, daughters and sons-in-law Dr. Doris Warriner & Dr. Bryan Brayboy of Phoenix, Arizona, and Rachel and Benson Bartron of Elk Lake, twelve grandchildren, sister & brother-in-law Alma "Timmy" and Winston Wood of Vero Beach, Florida, brother Reuel E. Warriner Jr. of Atlantic Heights, New Jersey, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Memorial services will be held Sunday, July 19th at 11:30 AM at St. Paul's Church in Montrose. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Church or to the Robert and Katharine Warriner Fund at The Community Foundation. Bobby played an early and important role in the establishment of The Community Foundation. He will be missed by many, and we send our condolences to his family, but Bobby's legacy will continue in the daily work accomplished by The Foundation for the benefit of our local citizens, about whom Bobby had a genuine care and concern.
