Young Musicians Fund Established for Tunkhannock Students
![]()
March 25, 2008: The Tunkhannock Area School District Band Boosters Club has established an endowment fund to assist 5th Grade music students from low-income families in renting musical instruments. It is hoped that by fostering an interest in musical performance at a young age that the students, who otherwise would not be able to afford instruments, will continue their musical interests throughout their school years and beyond. Many studies have proven that music education strongly enhances the overall education of students.
This new fund is a component of The Tunkhannock Area School District Foundation, which is an Affiliate of The Community Foundation of Susquehanna & Wyoming Counties. The Community Foundation acknowledges the encouragement of Tunkhannock Music Teacher, Mr. Ryan Zellner, in establishing this fund. He was also involved a year ago with the establishment of the Purdy College Scholarship Fund in honor of retired Tunkhannock music teacher Albert Purdy, which this year will grant a $500.00 award to a Tunkhannock graduate who will major in musical performance. Both of these worthwhile endowments can benefit from tax-deductible donations to help assist future generations of Tunkhannock Area School District students. Contributions may be sent directly to The Community Foundation.
