Current Funds

 

"Adrienne's Garden" Art Awards Fund

Established by James and Lorraine Maillet of Tunkhannock in memory of their daughter Adrienne to support the annual "Adrienne's Garden" art awards provided to talented Tunkhannock students in grades Kindergarten through 8th.

L. Carter & Elizabeth Anderson Fund

Supports various charitable needs of Susquehanna County as recommended annually by the Anderson family of Franklin Forks.

Helen & DeWitt Andre Memorial Fund

Established by Joe and Kathy Andre in memory of Joe's parents, to benefit the Montrose United Methodist Church or another charitable organization recommended by the Andre family.

Area Agency on Aging Fund

Established by The Area Agency on Aging to assist with their work on behalf of senior citizens in Bradford, Sullivan, Susquehanna, and Tioga Counties.

Daniel Arnold Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established in memory of Daniel Arnold, killed in action in Iraq in September, 2005.  Provides a college scholarship for a football player from Montrose Area High School, Daniel's alma mater. The winner of the 2014 award is Eric Donovon.  Eric will attend Keystone College.

Asheld Memorial Wyoming County Library Fund

Established by the Wyoming County Library Board to provide support to the various public libraries throughout Wyoming County.

Dana Rymer Battenberg Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established in 1920 by H.A. Willman of Jermyn.  For a student of high moral character who has attended Lakeland School District for at least five years and who will attend college or a post-secondary degree program outside of Lackawanna and Luzerne Counties and who has achieved the highest Grade Point Average of any students fulfilling the aforementioned criteria.  The winner of the 2014 award is Dana Buskovitz.  Dana will attend Clemson University.

Joan Carter Beane Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established by the family of the late Mrs. Beane to provide a college scholarship to a graduating senior from Tunkhannock Area High School who has achieved at least a 3.0 GPA, has been a member of at least two school or community organizations, has earned at least one Varsity sports letter or Cheerleading honor, has been involved with at least one performing or visual arts program (including year book and/or school newspaper), and who has not received any drug, alcohol or automobile violations. The winner of the 2014 award is Samantha Reposa.

BeGasse Family Fund

Established in memory of Pat and Bruce BeGasse to support adult learners and favorite charities of the Begasse family.

Dr. Raymond L. Bennett Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established in memory of Dr. Ray Bennett, a long-time Montrose physician.  Provides a college scholarship for a Montrose Area High School graduate who has maintained an 85 GPA during High School and has participated in interscholastic athletics. The winner of the 2014 award is Myra Lattimore.

Dr. A. Monroe & Sarah Bertsch Family Fund

Established by Mrs. Sarah Bertsch of Montrose, this fund will provide annual grants to various local charities as recommended by Mrs. Bertsch and her family.

Albert Bertsch Fund in Memory of Chris Lake

Established by Albert Bertsch of Montrose in memory of his good friend, Chris Lake, who passed away unexpectedly.  This fund provides support to the Trehab Agency and the Interfaith Agency.

Tony Bistocchi Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established by the family and friends of Tony Bistocchi, a 2009 graduate of Montrose Area High School who died in a car accident in 2012.  Provides assistance to a Montrose student who will attend college or a post-secondary degree program and who writes a winning 150 word essay about overcoming adversity with wit, lightheartedness, and humor.  The winner of the 2014 award is Destiny Sterling.  Destiny will attend the Pennsylvania College of Technology.

Blue Ridge Education Association Cheryl Manchester Memorial Fund

Established in memory of long-time Blue Ridge teacher Cheryl Manchester by her husband John and the Blue Ridge Education Association to assist with special unfunded departmental, athletic, or extra-curricular projects in the school district.

Blue Ridge School District Foundation Superintendent's Fund

Personally established by Superintendent Robert McNamara.  Supports the educational programs of the Blue Ridge School District.

Bondurant Family Fund

Established by Ken Bondurant of New Milford to provide support to the Automotive Body Department and the Automotive Mechanics Department at the Susquehanna County Career and Technology Center.

Boz Fund

Established by David Baltzley of Rush Township to benefit his family's favorite charities and educational projects in the local school districts.

Jack Brainard Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established by the family of Jack Brainard to assist a graduate of Mountain View High School who will attend college or a post-secondary degree program to major in art or music. The winner of the 2014 award is Rebecca Perkins. 

Norman Brunner Memorial Fund

Established in memory of Norman Brunner, who in the 1950s, founded the Susquehanna County Charities Distribution Fund, the forebear of The Community Foundation.  Provides grants to the United Way of Susquehanna County.

Evelyn G. Brush Memorial Fund for St. John the Evangelist Church of Susquehanna Borough

Established by the estate of Mrs. Brush, this fund provides annual grants for St. John's Church.

Diane Bundy Memorial Fund

Established by her family in memory of Diane to provide Elk Lake students with opportunities to pursue the sport of skiing and higher education. Diane, Fred Williams and Jim Brooks established the Elk Lake Ski club to provide these opportunities to the students in the late 70's early 80's.

Deborah A. Burke Breast Cancer Fund

Provides assistance to breast cancer patients.

CAFE Education Assistance Fund

Established by Creative Adventures For Education (CAFE) to provide assistance for unfunded programs or projects in the Blue Ridge School District.  CAFE is most notable for continuing the long tradition of organizing the annual Blue Ridge 6th Grade trip to Washington D.C.

Cameron County Outdoor Youth Activities Fund

Established by the Andrews family of Tunkhannock and Emporium to support programs that foster an understanding and enjoyment of the outdoors and the overall environment.

Julie Bush Capwell Memorial Fund

Established by the family and friends of Julie to benefit the following organizations that were close to her heart, Exodus Prison and Aftercare Ministries, Yokefellowship, Justice and Mercy, and The Susquehanna County Literacy Council.

Myrtle W. Carlson Memorial Fund

Established by Reverend Carlson in memory of his wife to provide annual support for their favorite charities.

Child Safety & Advocacy Fund

Established by Attorney Sandra Boyle of Tunkhannock in memory of her late husband Kevin to support organizations in northeastern Pennsylvania that provide advocacy and safety services for abused and neglected children.

Choconut Valley Elementary School Wellness Fund

Established by Michael and Charm Giangrieco to support student health and wellness initiatives in the Choconut Valley Elementary School as designated by the Principal.

David Clark Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established in memory of David Clark, a Tunkhannock Area High School graduate who passed away unexpectedly.  Provides a college scholarship to a Tunkhannock graduate who has overcome personal adversity to graduate from High School and go on to college. The winner of the 2014 award is Samantha Reposa.

Clemens Family Fund

Established by David and Carol Clemens of Hallstead.  Supports various charitable needs of Susquehanna County as recommended annually by the Clemens family, especially the United Way of Susquehanna County, and also open land preservation initiatives.

Clifford Township Historical Society Fund

This endowment was established by the Historical Society to provide assistance with operating expenses and projects.

Community Foundation Community Fund

This fund was established by the Community Foundation as a non-designated fund to provide assistance for the most urgent needs in our area as directed by our Board of Directors each year.

 

Community Foundation Operating Fund

Established by The Community Foundation's Board of Directors, this fund assists with the administrative expenses of The Foundation.

Community Foundation Building Fund

This endowment was established by friends of The Community Foundation to help maintain our office facility, which was donated for our use in 2008.

Cindi Conaty Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established by Susquehanna County District Attorney, Jason Legg, in honor of his mother to provide a college or post-secondary degree program scholarship for a student from one of the six Susquehanna County high schools who writes a winning essay explaining his or her pro-life stance and values and how those values have had an impact upon the student's life.  The winner of the 2014 award is Paige Parkhurst.  Paige will attend Shippensburg.

Thomas Conaty Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established by the family of Mr. Conaty to provide a college or post-secondary degree program scholarship to a student who has demonstrated a record of community service and writes a winning 500 word essay explaining how community service has had a positive impact on his or her life. Preference will be given to a student who will pursue a degree in business or a related field. Available to students from the Blue Ridge, Elk Lake, and Montrose Area School Districts. The 2014 award winner is Callie Curley.  Callie will attend Penn State. 

Bradley David Conklin Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established in memory of Brad Conklin, a High School student killed in an automobile accident.  Provides a college scholarship to a graduate from Blue Ridge High School, Montrose Area High School or Crestwood High School who excels in academics and exhibits exceptional athletic talent. The 2014 winners are: Austin French, attending Susquehanna University, Myra Lattimore, and Shania Yachymiak, attending Scranton University.

Countryside Conservancy Endowment Fund

Established by the Conservancy to support its mission of land and water protection in and around the Tunkhannock Creek Watershed.

Daniel Crisman Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established in memory of Daniel Crisman, who was killed in the World Trade Towers on September 11, 2001. Provides a college scholarship for a Montrose Area High School graduate who exhibits exceptional artistic talent and will study the visual arts in a post-secondary school program. The winner of the 2014 award is Holly Andre.  Holly will attend Penn State.

Crossley-LaBonte Family Fund

Established by Jane Crossley LaBonte, this fund supports various Susquehanna County charities and non-profit organizations as recommended annually by Mrs. LaBonte and her family of Brackney and Montrose.

Jack Daniels Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established in memory of Jack Daniels, a gifted Junior High School student/athlete who passed away in a swimming accident.  Provides a college scholarship for a Tunkhannock Area High School graduate with the lowest cumulative points after combining class rank, varsity individual event in Track and Field Districts placement, and Cross Country Districts placement, and who will enter college or a post-secondary school program. The winner of the 2014 award is Benjamin Siegel.

Richard Davis, Sr. Memorial Fund for True Friends Animal Welfare Center

 

Established by the estate of Richard Davis, Sr. to provide support to True Friends Animal Welfare Center.

 

William Dean Memorial Fund

Supports Susquehanna County non-profit organizations as recommended annually by the Dean family of Montrose.

Gil Depew Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established by the family of Mr. Depew to provide a college scholarship for a diabetic student from one of the six Susquehanna County High Schools. The winner of the 2014 award is Patrick Cramer.  Patrick will attend the Word of Life Bible Institute.

Martin Dillon Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established by the Montrose Lions Club in memory of the late Montrose attorney Martin Dillon to provide a college scholarship to a deserving student from Mr. Dillon's alma mater of Montrose Area High School.   For two students in good standing who will attend college or a post-secondary degree program. The winners for 2014 are: Erica Reeves and Callie Curley.

Dimock Community Workers Scholarship Fund

Established by The Dimock Community Workers.  For a student who has the highest GPA of any Elk Lake student who resides in Dimock Township and who will matriculate at a college, trade school, or other post-secondary degree program.  The winner of the 2014 award is Matthew Woolcock.

Jackie Dispenza Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established by the family and friends of Jackie Dispenza who was an alumna of Tunkhannock Area High School and who was killed in an automobile accident.  The scholarship provides assistance to a student who exhibits a passion for the creative arts. Students who have overcome personal adversity will be given special consideration. The 2014 winner is Natasha Walley.  Natasha will attend the Art Institute of New York.

Joseph Dohrer Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established in memory of Mr. Dohrer, a Tunkhannock resident who passed away in the 1980's. Provides a scholarship to a Tunkhannock graduate who has maintained at least a 3.0 GPA in High School, who has financial need for assistance, and will attend college or a post secondary degree program.  If a 3.0 GPA is maintained in college, the award will be granted for up to four years of post secondary degree education. Candidates will also submit their Student Aid Report, an essay addressing future goals and plans, and be available for a personal interview.  The winner of the 2014 award is Cassandra Werner.

Donley Family Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established in memory of the Donley family siblings, Harry, Josephine, Maurice, and Paul. This scholarship provides assistance to a Blue Ridge graduate who displays a need for financial assistance.  If the recipient maintains a 3.0 GPA in college, this will be awarded for four years. The winner for 2014 is Samantha Frailey.  Samantha will attend Ithaca College.

Edwards-Napolitano Memorial Music Scholarship Fund

Established initially in memory of Johnny Edwards, a talented musician from Susquehanna.  In 2007 the name of the fund changed to also honor Johnny's good friend and band-mate, John Napolitano, who has also passed away.  This fund provides a college scholarship for a Susquehanna Community High School graduate who exhibits exceptional musical talent in vocal or instrumental performance. The winners of the 2014 award are  Lauren Marco and Ashley Miller.

Elk Lake Class of 1958 Fund

Established by the Class of '58, the first graduating class of the consolidated school district, to assist with special unfunded projects in the Elk Lake School District.

Cecilia C. & Glenn W. Ely Memorial Fund

Established by the Ely's daughter, Judy Kelly of Montrose, this fund will support local charities as recommended annually by the Larry and Judy Kelly family of Montrose.

Harold & Frances Ely Family Fund

Established in honor of Mr. & Mrs. Ely by their children and grandchildren, this fund will provide assistance to the Endless Mtns. Health System and to the Susquehanna County Library.

Endless Mountains Habitat for Humanity Scholarship Fund

 

Established by Robert and Diane Turrell to provide post-secondary degree education assistance to families living in Habitat for Humanity housing in Wyoming County.

 

Thomas D. Evans Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established by the family of the late Mr. Evans who was a coach and faculty member at the Montrose Area School District.  Provides college tuition assistance to a member of the Montrose Girls' Varsity Basketball Team, or a member of the Varsity Golf Team who exhibits outstanding leadership qualities and good sportsmanship as well as an inherent desire to succeed. The winner of the 2014 award is Myra Lattimore.

Paul Fearick Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established by Mr. Fearick's family and friends in memory of his many years as a teacher and coach at Lackawanna Trail High School.  Provides a scholarship for a graduate of Lackawanna Trail High School who exhibits leadership, perseverance, dedication and academic commitment, has participated in school sports programs, and who will enter college or a post secondary degree program. The winner of the 2014 award is William J. Lee.  William will attend Penn State, University Park.

Feed a Friend Fund

Established by an anonymous donor to provide annual support for The Susquehanna County Food Pantry.

Mario & Maria Lampazzi Fiaschi Memorial Nursing Scholarship Fund

Established by Peter Fiaschi in memory of his parents.  For a student who has attended Susquehanna Community School District for at least three years and will major in Nursing.  Candidates must achieve at least an 88 GPA at the end of the Junior year and achieve an SAT score of 850 with a minimum of 400 in the mathematics and verbal examinations.  Scholarship award is available for four years of college if the recipient remains a student in good standing enrolled in a Nursing program.  Scholarship award for 2014 is $2,500.

Friends of The Tunkhannock Public Library Fund

Established by The Friends of The Tunkhannock Public Library to provide support for the expsenses and programs of the library.

Friends of Salt Springs Park Fund

Established by the Leasure family, this Fund supports the programmatic needs of Friends of Salt Springs Park.

Friends of Susquehanna County Fund

Supports non-profit organizations in Susquehanna County as recommended annually by The Friends of Susquehanna County, formerly known as The Friends of Barnes-Kasson Hospital.

Julia Frystak Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established in memory of Julia Frystak, a High School student killed in an automobile accident.  Provides a college scholarship to a Montrose Area High School graduate who excels in academics and participates in athletics. The winner of the 2014 award is Lauren Hackett.  Lauren will attend Misericordia University.

The Garden Club of Montrose, Presidents Fund

Established by the McLaughlin family.  Supports the civic beautification projects of The Garden Club of Montrose.

The Garden Club of Montrose, Jean Rose Memorial Education Fund

The Fund provides support for Garden Club members' education enhancement and for college scholarships for local students.

Giana Foundation Fund for the Visual and Performing Arts

Established by The Giana Foundation to assist with special unfunded projects in the Art, Music, and Drama Departments of the eight school districts in Susquehanna and Wyoming Counties.

Girl Scouts Camp Archbald Fund

Established by The Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania to assist with the renovation of Camp Archbald in Brooklyn Township, Susquehanna County, the second oldest Girl Scout Camp in the United States.

Glenwood Stone Robert Klenk Memorial Scholarship Fund

 

Established by the Cecil Kilmer family in memory of respected long-time Mountain View School District teacher and administrator Robert Klenk.  Provides college tuition assistance to a student will major in education and the teaching profession.

 

Ferdinand Graf Memorial Scholarship Fund

Provides a college scholarship to a Blue Ridge High School graduate who exhibits good sportsmanship in wrestling. The winners for 2014 are:  Zachary Edwards, who will attend Lackawanna College, and Lewis Esposito, who will attend Lackawanna College.

H.A.N.D.S. of Wyoming County Fund

Established by H.A.N.D.S. (Helping Area Needs for Diverse Early Child Care Services) to provide operational support for its work to improve the quality and availability of pre-kindergarten education in Wyoming County. H.A.N.D.S. gives training and assistance to parents, teachers, and children.

John Torrey Hawkins & Evelyn Lutz Hawkins Memorial Fund

Established by the family and friends of John "Jack" and Evelyn "Chips" Hawkins of Montrose to benefit the Endless Mountains Health Systems which had been of great assistance to them in their later years.

Erma & Beulah Hefferan Fund

 

Established from the estates of Montrose sisters Erma & Beulah Hefferan to provide support for the Montrose United Methodist Church.

 

Agnes & James W. Holbert Scholarship Fund

Established by the children of James W. Holbert, who was in the Army Medical Corps during WWII and participated in the Normandy Invasion.  The scholarship provides assistance to Elk Lake High School, and Montrose Area High School graduates who excel in academics, exhibit high moral character, and who will participate in the ROTC Program in college or enter a U.S. Military Academy. Scholarship award for 2014 is $200.

Housel Family Fund

Established by Robert and Jennifer Housel of Harford to provide support for their favorite charities.

David Hwang Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established in memory of David Hwang, a teenager killed in an automobile accident.  Provides a scholarship to a Blue Ridge High School graduate of high moral character who has participated in interscholastic sports and whose academic achievements have led to enrollment at an institution of higher learning. The 2014 winner is Curtis Mills.  Curtis will attend Hofstra University.

Jackson Cemetery Association Fund

Established by the Cemetery Association to assist with the expenses of managing the Jackson Cemetery.

John James Memorial FBLA Fund

Established by the estate of the late John James to provide assistance to the Future Business Leaders of America Clubs in all the school districts of Susquehanna County.

Jones Family Fund

Supports Susquehanna County human services agencies that provide health care, mental health care, or substance abuse care.

Kail Family Fund

Established by the Karl Kail IV family of Heart Lake to provide support to charities and non-profits as recommended by the Kail family.

The Dutch Keller Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established by Mr. Keller's family in memory of this legendary Tunkhannock coach who passed away in 1967. For a student ranked in the top third of Tunkhannock's graduating class who has earned at least five varsity letters during high school. The winner of the 2014 award is Benjamin Siegel.

Frances E. Kennard Memorial Wyoming County Library Fund

Established by the Wyoming County Library Board to provide support to the various public libraries throughout Wyoming County. 

France E. Kennard Public Library Fund

Established by the library‚Äôs Board of Directors to assist with the expenses of running the Kennard Public Library in Meshoppen.   

Keystone College Endowment Fund

Established by Keystone College for alumni, friends, and benefactors to provide long-term financial support for the college.

Kingsley Civic Club Scholarship Fund

Established by the Kingsley Civic Club to provide three annual college scholarships to Mountain View High School graduates who have maintained a 3.0 GPA in a college preparatory curriculum and who write winning 200-250 word essays regarding their greatest accomplishments in High School. The 2014 winners are:  Megan Getz, who will attend Lock Haven University, Mikaela Phillips, and Jillian Kochmer, who will attend East Stroudsburg University.

Kintner Family Fund

Established by Fred and Jeanne Kintner to benefit the United Methodist Church of Mehoopany.

Robert W. Klenk Scholarship Fund

Established by the Mountain View School District Alumni Association in honor of Mr. Klenk, a long-time teacher and principal of the District. Provides a scholarship to a graduate who will attend college to pursue a degree in education. The winner for 2014 is Jae Winemiller, who will attend the University of Scranton.

John Krupinski Memorial Scholarship Fund

In memory of John Krupinski, Montrose High School basketball star, and first Business Manager of the Montrose Area School District.  Provides a college scholarship to a Montrose graduate who has maintained at least a B average during High School and will major in business, economics, or the business application of technology. The winner of the 2014 award is Samantha Bennici, who will attend Elizabethtown College.

Lathrop Family Scholarship Fund

Established by Mrs. Mary Lathrop to provide a scholarship to graduates of Elk Lake School District who will enter a Post-Secondary Degree Technical Program or Trade School. The winner of the 2014 award is Danielle Callas, who will attend Keystone College.

Law Enforcement Fund

Established by Susquehanna County District Attorney, Jason Legg, to assist with the expenses of law enforcement, particulary the Susquehanna County Task Force, and the K-9 Unit.

Mary and Kenneth Leasure Fund

Supports non-profit organizations in Susquehanna County as recommended annually by the Leasure family.

Mary K. Leasure Fund

In memory of Mary Leasure, who greatly enjoyed the beauty of Salt Spings State Park.  Provides grants for the maintenance of Salt Springs State Park , and especially for the upkeep of the Mary K. Leasure Memorial Bench.

William and Deborah Lewis Fund

Supports non-profit organizations in Susquehanna County as recommended annually by the Lewis family of Montrose.

Linaberry Family Fund

 

Established by Robert and Christina Linaberry of Naples, Florida to provide support for their favorite charities.

 

James J. Luciana Memorial Fund

Established by the estate of the late Mr. Luciana of Susquehanna Depot to provide charitable assistance in the borough.

John Lyons Memorial Fund for the Montrose Cemetery Association

 

Established by the estate of Montrose resident John Lyons in 1936 and transferred to The Community Foundation to provide support for the maintenance of the Montrose Cemetery.

 

Montrose Area Chamber of Commerce Pauline MacNeal Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established by the Montrose Area Chamber of Commerce to honor past member Mrs. Pauline MacNeal and to provide college tuition assistance to graduates of Elk Lake and Montrose Area School Districts who will major in a business related field and who writes a winning essay of approximately 200 words explaining life goals and expectations upon graduating from college.  Scholarship is contingent upon student earning at least a 3.0 GPA during the first semester of college. The winner of the 2014 award is Holly Andre.  Holly will attend Penn State University.

Montrose Area School District Educational Scholarship Fund

Established by the School District to provide college tuition assistance for a deserving student who exhibits financial need and who will enter college or a post-secondary degree program.  The winners of the 2014 award are Marybeth Henry and Nicholas Myers.  Marybeth will attend Marywood University.  Nicholas will attend Penn State, Wilkes Barre.

Montrose Business and Professional Women's Scholarship Fund

Provides a college scholarship to a graduate of a Susquehanna County high school who will further his or her education in preparation for entering the business or health care professions, or to an adult seeking further education.  This scholarship will not be awarded in 2012 while the fund matures in value.  Tax-deductible donations to the fund are always welcome.

Montrose Cemetery Association Fund

Established by the Cemetery Association to assist with the expenses of operating the Montrose Cemetery.

The Montrose Fund

Established by The Community Foundation to make annual grants to the Borough of Montrose to offset lost tax revenue because of the Foundation's non-profit tax exempt status.

Montrose Lions Club Montrose Area School District Fund

 

Established by the Montrose Lions Club to assist with unfunded departmental, athletic, or extra-curricular activities for Grades Kindergarten through 12th in the Montrose Area School District.

 

Montrose Minute Men Ambulance Fund

Established by the estate of the late Homer B. Shay to benefit the Montrose Minutemen Ambulance Company.  Additional tax-deductible donations to the fund are always appreciated.

Montrose Restoration Committee Fund

Established by The Montrose Restoration Committee to provide support for its mission to preserve and revitalize economic activity, heritage, and cultural enhancements in the village of Montrose.

Montrose United Methodist Church Music Fund

Established by Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Stone to assist with expenses related to the church choir and general music activities at the Montrose UMC.

Mountain View School District Alumni Association Scholarship Fund

Provides a college scholarship to a Mountain View student in good standing who will matriculate at college or a post secondary degree program. The winners of the 2014 awards are: Racheal Lynn Bruzgulis, attending Luzerne Community College and Noah Pepper.

Mountain View School District Library Fund

Established Mark Wilmot of Union Dale to provide support to the Libraries in the Mountain View Elementary School and High School.

Eileen and Gregory Myer Fund

Supports low income housing projects in Susquehanna County .

Established by North Branch Land Trust to assist with its projects to protect open land in Susquehanna and Wyoming Counties.

Northern Tier Industry & Education Consortium Fund

Established by the Consortium to support joint activities between schools and business which help students develop career awareness and skills through career fairs, mentoring, job shadowing, and internships. The programs provide students in the five northern tier counties of Pennsylvania with pathways to family sustaining careers and help employers connect with talented youth to staff their business.

The Claire Williams O'Neil Foundation Scholarship

The Claire Williams O'Neil Foundation was established by the family of Mrs. O'Neil who was an admired and inspirational teacher in Susquehanna. Rita and Haskell Oakes Memorial Fund

Established by Joe and Kathy Andre in memory of Kathy's parents, to benefit the Montrose United Methodist Church or another charitable organization recommended by the Andre family.

Oriental Grange of Mill City Fund

Established by the Oriental Grange to support projects and initiatives that will encourage an interest in agriculture among young people in Wyoming County.

Supports business leadership development programs in Susquehanna and Wyoming Counties.

Joan O. Peters Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established by the family, friends, and former students of Joan Peters, a long-time respected teacher in the Mountain View School District, to provide college tuition assistance to an academically inclined student who exhibits great promise.  The 2014 award winner is Macie Karhnak.  Macie will attend Luzerne County Community College.

Morgan R. Potter Memorial Scholarship Fund

In memory of Morgan Potter, a college student who passed away unexpectedly.  Provides a college scholarship to a Montrose High School graduate who exhibits school spirit, has maintained a B+ Grade Point Average, and writes a winning 200-250 word essay about "what my years at Montrose Area High School have meant to me."  The 2014 award winner is Erica Reeves.  Erica will attend Penn State, Univesity Park.

Albert M. Purdy Music Scholarship Fund

Established by the Tunkhannock Area High School Band Boosters Association in honor of retired teacher Albert Purdy.  Provides a college scholarship to a Tunkhannock graduate who exhibits exceptional musical talent and will study vocal or instrumental performance in college. The 2014 award winner is Cameron King who will attend Mansfield University.

Rail-Trail Council of Northeastern Pennsylvania Fund

Established by the Rail-Trail Council to assist with its administrative and project expenses.

Jonathan Randall Memorial Fund

In memory of Jonathan Randall, who was killed in the World Trade Towers, September 11, 2001.  Provides grants to charitable agencies as recommended annually by the Randall family of Silver Lake.

R.E.S.C.U.E. Benjamin B. Stone Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established by the environmental organization "Return Susquehanna Country Under Ecology" to recognize Benjamin Stone's courageous and life-long efforts that both halted threatening pollution to our region and established the Susquehanna County Recycling Center.  Two college scholarships are awarded each year and are available to Seniors from all of the High Schools in Susquehanna County and from Honesdale, Wallenpaupack Area, and Western Wayne High Schools in Wayne County who write winning essays addressing their past environmental interests and accomplishments and describing their future plans to protect the environment.  The 2014 award winners are:  Curtis Mills, attending Hofstra University, and Danielle Spewak, attending Penn State University.

Reppy-Keker Family Fund

Established by Mr. and Mrs. John Keker of Tunkhannock to provide assistance to their favorite charities.

Beatrice Reynolds Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established by the late Ira T. Reynolds in memory of his late wife to assist a Susquehanna Community School District graduate who will major in education or teacher training.  Scholarship is provided in four equal installments as long as the recipient remains a student in good standing.

Established by Mr. Daniel Ricci of Montrose to provide assistance to his family's favorite charities.

Sylvia Rivenberg Memorial Fund for True Friends Animal Welfare Center

Edward L. Rose Conservancy Fund

Supports the programmatic needs of the Edward L. Rose Conservancy of Susquehanna County .

Reginald Sanger & Florence MacGowan Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established in memory of Mr. Sanger and Mrs. MacGowan who were brother and sister who retired to the Elk Lake area.  The scholarship is for an Elk Lake student who has exhibited good citizenship and has maintained a 3.0 GPA during high school.  The 2014 award winner is Taylor Watkins.

Scholarships for Careers

Established anonymously by a local family with ties to Elk Lake School District.  The scholarship is for graduates of Elk Lake School District and/or The Susquehanna County Career & Technology Center who have financial need, exhibit promise for the future, and will attend a vocational, technical, academic, or other post-secondary degree program.  The scholarship fund can also be used to assist with special unfunded projects in the School District or the Career & Technology Center. The winners for 2014 are: Danielle Callas, attending Keystone College; Brooke Seamans; Paige Parkhurst, attending Shippensburg; Rachel Lynn Burzgulis, attending Luzerne Community College; and Justin Cobb.

Leopold & Jane Schreiber Culinary Arts Fund

Established by friends of Leopold and the late Jane Schreiber in honor of their years in the confectionary business.  This fund supports the Culinary Program of the Susquehanna County Career & Technology Center.

Nicholas Severcool Memorial Scholarship Fund

Provides a college scholarship to a Montrose High School student who has overcome personal adversity in order to graduate and go onto a postsecondary degree program. The 2014 award winner is Destiny Sterling, attend the Pennsylvania College of Technology.

Shared Blessings Fund

Established by Neil Andre and Sonji Lee of Montrose to promote and enhance the power of faith, compassion, and education.

Dr. W. Dayton Shelly Memorial Music Scholarship Fund

Established by the family and friends of Dr. Shelly to honor his love of music and its ability to awaken and renew the human spirit and to recognize a student who understands the life-long joy that this art allows.  This fund grants a scholarship to a graduating Tunkhannock Area High School senior who has exhibited a commitment to this art, a long-term appreciation of its beauty, but does not necessarily intend on majoring in music in college.  Applicants must submit a 200 word essay addressing the meaning of music in one's life and how that meaning may evolve as a person matures. The 2014 award winner is Brooke Maloney, attending Marywood University.

Albert Shepherd Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established by the family of Albert Shepherd to assist a graduate from Montrose Area High School who has been a student in good standing and who will enter college or a post-secondary degree program. The 2014 award winner is Laura Brink, attending Johnson and Wales University.

Andrew F. Sienko Sr. Memorial Fund

Established by the Sienko family to provide support for the Andrew F. Sienko Memorial Nature Trail at Blue Ridge School District.

Silver Lane Cares Fund

Established by Silver Lane Advisors, a New York City investment banking boutique, to support various charitable, educational, and non-profit organizations in New York and Pennsylvania.

Silver Lake Ladies Club Fund

Supports the Club's annual college scholarship presented to a High School graduate from Silver Lake Township, or other Club projects.

Andrew M. Snitzer Memorial  Scholarship Fund

Provides a college scholarship to a Blue Ridge High School graduate of high moral character who will attend college to train for a career in education. The 2014 award winner is Samantha Frailey, attending Ithaca College.

Spirit of 9-11 Enduring Freedom Memorial Park Fund

Established by Debbie Crisman, mother Danny Crisman, who perished in the Twin Towers of New York City on September 11, 2001.  The fund will provide for the perpetual care of the Spirit of 9-11 Enduring Freedom Memorial Park in South Montrose.

Matthew Stahl Memorial 4-H Fund

Established in memory of eight year old Matthew Stahl who perished in Hurricane Sandy in October 2012.  The fund will provide support to the Youth Dairy Program of the Susquehanna County 4-H, which was one of Matthew's favorite activities.

Diane & Paul Stizza Fund for Animal Care

Established by Diane Stizza to support organizations in northeastern Pennsylvania that provide spaying and neutering services for the household pets of  the deserving elderly and also low-income families and to assist the deserving elderly with health care access for their pets.

Margaret Stone Music Scholarship Fund

Established by Mrs. Stone, Houghton College class of '45, to assist a music major attending her alma mater. Scholarship award for 2014 is $1,000.

Susquehanna County Christmas Basketball Tournament Scholarship Fund

Established by the school districts in Susquehanna County to provide college scholarships to students from the teams that participate in the Annual Susquehanna County Christmas Basketball Tournament every December. The 2014 award winners are Samantha Frailey, attending Ithaca College, and Bradley Palmatier, attending Broome Community College.

Susquehanna County Historical Society & Free Library Association Fund

This endowment has existed for a number of years, and in 2007 the Board of the Library and Historical Society transferred it to The Community Foundation for local management.  The endowment assists with the expenses of operating the Historical Society in Montrose, and the Library branches throughout the county.

Susquehanna Beekeepers Education Fund

Established by the Susquehanna Beekeepers Association to assist with their education programs for young people.

Susquehanna County 4-H Fund

Established by the Susquehanna County 4-H to assist with various program expenses.

Susquehanna County Civil War Monument Fund

Supports the restoration and maintenance of the Civil War Monument on the Montrose Green. "Civil War Monument" booklets, onsale in the Susquehanna County Historical Society and Free Library, detail the history of the monument as well as lists the names of all the soldiers from the county who have given their lives in service to the country. Proceeds from the booklet, which costs $5, will be donated to the endowment.

Susquehanna Fire Department Scholarship Fund

Established by the Susquehanna Fire Department to assist a Susquehanna Community student who has demonstrated a strong sense of volunteerism and community service, with consideration given to students that participate in the Fire Department. The 2014 award winner is Steven Frye, attending Broome Community College.

Maurice D. Taylor Memorial Music Scholarship

Established by the family of Mr. Taylor who was originally from Montrose and became a nationally recognized music and band instructor. The scholarship will benefit a student from Montrose or Elk Lake who has achieved a four-year Grade Point Average of at least 2.5, has actively participated in the High School music program in either voice or instrumental performance, and who will attend a post-secondary degree program to major in music.  Scholarship award for 2014 is $600.

Ralph & Dorothy Taylor Fund

 

Established from the estates of Mr. & Mrs. Taylor of Montrose to provide support for the Montrose United Methodist Church.

 

Technology for Tomorrow Scholarship Fund

Established anonymously by a Montrose family, this endowment provides a scholarship for a graduating Montrose Area High School Senior who will enter a post secondary degree program for technology or industrial arts training. Student must be in good standing, display good character and citizenship qualities. The student's grades and finanical need may also be considered. The 2014 award winner is Blair Pipher.

Harry Torney Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established by the family of Mr. Torney to provide assistance to a graduate of The Susquehanna County Career & Technology Center who will go onto a post-secondary degree program to study machine shop technology, welding, or carpentry.  The 2014 award winner is James Phillips, III, attending Lackawanna College.

Jessie Osgood Tourje Memorial Fund

Established by the Tourje family of Forest City in memory of their mother and grandmother.  Provides annual grants to Blue Ridge, Forest City, Mountain View, and Susquehanna Community School Districts.

True Friends Animal Welfare Center Fund

Established by True Friends Animal Welfare Center to assist with its expenses of caring for homeless pets from Susquehanna and Wyoming Counties.

Tunkhannock Public Library Fund

Established by the Board of Directors of the Library, this endowment will provide permanent annual support to assist with the library's expenses.

Mary M. Umlauf Memorial Fund

Supports the Lanesboro Community Church.

United Way Fund

Provides grants to the United Way of Susquehanna County .

Frank J. Valvano Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established in memory of Frank J.Valvano, a retired Tunkhannock Area School District administrator, who passed away in a tragic motorcycle accident. Recipient eligibility is determined by completing the Valvano Scholarship Eligibility Formula available in the Guidance Office.  The 2014 award winner is Carson Ayers.  Carson will attend Mansfield University.

Kermit Van Cott Horticulture Scholarship Fund

Established by the Van Cott family in honor of their father, Kermit, a long-time nurseryman from New Milford.  Provides a college scholarship to a Blue Ridge High School graduate who will study horticulture, botany, forestry, or agriculture and exhibits a need for economic assistance.  The award winner for 2014 is Mark Oakley, who will attend Penn State Worthington Campus.

Matthew Van Fleet Memorial Automotive Scholarship Fund

Established by Matthew's parents and his sister in memory of Matt who passed away in an automobile accident.  The scholarship provides assistance to a student who will study automotive technology and who writes a winning 200-250 word essay addressing the following topics: why pursue training in the automotive field, describe the ultimate vehicle, envision the future of automotive technology, explain one's favorite recreational activity. The scholarship is available to students from all the school districts in Susquehanna and Wyoming Counties.  The 2014 award winner is Devin Clapper.  Devin will attend North Hampton Community College.

Vicki's Fund for the Prevention of Domestic Violence

In memory of Vicki Clary, killed by her estranged husband.  Provides support to the Susquehanna County Women's Resource Center .

John J. and Ann Vitale Scholarship Fund

Available to alumni from the six school districts in Susquehanna County who will enter their final year of college or graduate school and who have incurred student debt. The winner of the 2014 award is Lacy Marbaker.  Lacy is attending Bloomburg University.

Robert and Katharine Warriner Fund

Established by Mr. and Mrs. Warriner of Elk Lake to support agricultural heritage and cultural programs in Susquehanna County.

Wellness Fund

Established to encourage an understanding of complimentary and alternative health and wellness by providing support to The Self Discovery Wellness Arts Center in Montrose.

 

Robert & Grace Wert Charitable Fund

Supports charitable and non-profit organizations in Susquehanna County as recommended by the Wert family.

 

Mathew James White Memorial Scholarship Fund

In memory of Mathew White, a High School student killed in an automobile accident.  Provides a college scholarship to a Montrose High School graduate who writes a winning essay about the hazards of adolescent drug and alcohol abuse. 

Women Helping Women Fund

Aims to provide perpetual assistance to local non-profits that address issues specific to Endless Mountains women.  The fund pools donations and volunteers to create a larger impact than any one person could make individually.  Participation is encouraged, but not mandatory.  Some donors choose to simply make a donation, while others volunteer for one of our committees.  All gifts are welcome and the level of involvement is up to the donor!  

Robert Wood Memorial Scholarship Fund

In memory of Robert Wood, who in 1955 started the Montrose Minute Men Ambulance Service.  Provides a college scholarship to a Montrose High School graduate who will attend college to train for the medical professions or who will attend a post-secondary program to become a Paramedic. The 2014 award winner is Donald Arnold.

June J. Wootton Fund for Hospice and Palliative Care

Supports hospice and palliative care in Susquehanna and Wyoming Counties.

Earle and June Wootton Fund

Supports non-profit organizations in Susquehanna and Wyoming Counties as recommended annually by the Wootton family of Montrose.

Wyoming County 4-H Fund

Established by the Wyoming County 4-H to assist with various program expenses.

Ruth Taylor Yeager Memorial Fund

Established by the family of Mrs. Yeager, who was a long-time special needs teacher to socially and emotionally challenged children.  The endowment provides assistance for special needs individuals to attend Shepards Camp at Camp Arrowhead in Brackney, PA.

Clair Young Memorial Fund for Youth Workforce Development

Established by the family of Mr. Young who retired as the Blue Ridge High School Principal in 1982.  The endowment provides support to the Trehab Agency to assist with workforce development for a Blue Ridge graduate who will seek immediate employment rather than entering college.

Young Musicians Fund

Established by the Music Department of the Tunkhannock Area School District.  This fund helps provide assistance for 5th Grade students from low income families to rent musical instruments.

James Zick Memorial Community Service Scholarship Fund

Established by the family of Mr. Zick, a long-time School Board Member of Mountain View School District, among other civic activities, to honor his passion for education and community service.  Provides assistance to a Mountain View student who has exhibited civic involvement and writes a winning 200-250 word essay addressing why he or she is pursuing a particular field of study, and explaining one's past civic activities and how one plans to stay involved with community activities in the future.  The winner of the 2014 award is Kassandra Lamberson.  Kassandra will attend Keystone College.
